About

The Short Version:
I am a 3D artists focused on hard surface modeling. I'm currently employed and looking for work whether it be consultative, contract or full time. Check out my Portfolio and Contact Me if you'd like to talk specifics.

The Long Version:

Who I am...
I am an artist. I use a variety of mediums including ink, pencil, camera and on occasion even clay, but my favorite is digital. I am a 3D Artist. I focus on hard surfaces, which means anything with a hard edge ranging from a prop such as a coffee table or lamp, to the environment it goes into, like a full living room, building or even city. My passion and expertise however is around vehicles.

What I'm up to...
I currently work in the Computer Animation Finals Department at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida. I earned my BS in Computer Animation from Full Sail and then returned in 2006 as an Intern but have been the Art Director of Vehicles for just over three years now. This means that in addition to working with a specific group of students within the Finals program I am also the go to guy on campus when any help or expertise is needed regarding the modeling vehicles.

How I got here...
I've always liked cars, riding in them, driving them, fixing them and drawing them. I found myself dreaming of a job working for Papyrus, the creators of the game NASCAR Racing and quickly decided to go after a degree in that field.

What I'm good at...
While I have worked with 3D Studio Max, Maya is where I spend most of my time. Additionally I am incredibly comfortable working in latest version of Adobe Photoshop and have experience with Adobe Illustrator as well. Over the years, through critiquing students submissions, I have developed a practiced eye for details and the ability to pin point and articulate what needs to be addressed at a very granular level to improve the accuracy of a model.

My dream job...
I know this will be shocking, but my dream job would be working for NASCAR or for Turn10 on something like Forza Motorsport.

Why it's time for a change...
I have found that I do have a gift for coaching people and offering guidance on modeling, however I did not intend to pursue a career in education. The time I have spent in education has allowed me to really develop as a 3D artist and pick up some valuable skills and connections, however after years of helping students get their careers started it's time to focus on my own. What I'm really looking forward to is being able to collaborate with other artists to produce a result versus working with students to develop their skills.

Where I want to go...
While my ideal job would allow me to use my experience with vehicles to work in the SIM Racing industry, I could also apply my experience in the government sector working on weapons, planes, helicopters and the like. I'm comfortable with the idea of working autonomously as a consultant but also as part of project team to produce a product, what excites me about both scenarios is being able to produce something unique and new.

The fun stuff...
Now that you know about my professional life, here are some fun facts to really get the conversation started...I might be mildly obsessed with Dukes of Hazard, specifically the General Lee, other shows I watch include classics like The X-Files, Macgyver and Big Bang Theory. My friends can pretty much always count on me to know how to fix their car. I sometimes day dream about becoming The Stig. I don't see it, but my girlfriend says I spend a lot of my free time trying to improve my lap times on iRacing. I recently discovered a love of travel when I went on vacation to Ireland and Spain. If I could no longer be an artist and NASCAR couldn't find a spot for me I would consider a back up career as a Surfer (if I could surf) or a Ghost Hunter (if it involved a proton pack).
